Chuck’s Famous Purple Shoes

Well it has been a busy month for Webbula, between our retreat and all the trade shows, this will be the first employee spotlight blog in a few weeks. However, it is a great one. Chuck is Webbula’s Chief Revenue Officer. If you have met us at an event, you have probably seen Chuck working the floor in his awesome purple shoes. Keep reading and get to know a little more about Chuck Davis.

How long have you been at Webbula?

3 years

What brought you to Webbula?

I met Vince (CEO) at Email Insider Summit (an email industry conference and gathering of email geeks) – when I was running sales for a Webbula competitor in the email verification space.  Months later our paths randomly crossed again, Vince showed me what “CloudHygiene” was.  My enterprise email sales experience informed me that this is the most comprehensive offering across 40+ vendors.  Believing this value proposition will change the world, it was an easy decision to join Team Webbula.

What does your position entail at Webbula?

I help marketers, brands, email platforms and email agencies take advantage of the industry’s most comprehensive email data quality platform. It only takes a few minutes to see that Webbula’s innovative breakthroughs deliver unmatched email hygiene and verification capabilities plus the rapid ability to enrich customer data to deliver greater insights & targeting.

What part of your job are you most passionate about?

Chatting with prospective new Webbula customers who are driving revenue and KPIs about how Webbula’s innovations have helped similar clients change their go to marketing game.  The best part of my day is when I show a prospective new customer what Email Intelligence Webbula delivers and nearly 100% of the time I hear something like “Wow”, “Impressive”, “Most Comprehensive”, “I never knew you could know so much about different types of email threats”, “How do you do this”…

Where are you located?

Always near the beach.  Today in beautiful sunny Southern California (SoCal) in Long Beach.

(Editor’s Note: The people in Pittsburgh are jealous… it is like an average of 50 and rainy here at the time this was written)

Where are you originally from?

The USA.  My father retired from the Navy as an officer.  He was recruited by IBM into Sales Operations and re-located to Seattle (where I was born).  Every 2 years – my father was promoted to another management role and we moved again along the path of states: WA, KY, IL, NJ, IA, and finally CA.   So that question is hard to answer for me BUT I would say my formative childhood years, elementary and high school, were near Des Moines, Iowa.

Where did you go to college?

Freshman year I studied at Iowa State University.  IBM transferred my father to Los Angeles during that year.   I purchased a Kawasaki 1000 motorcycle and took a two week road trip across the country to visit my family and see California.  I loved it so much, I ended up graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Computer Science (before it was cool to be a computer geek).  After a few years working in a couple LA based startups, I graduated from USC with an MBA in Marketing & Entrepreneurial Studies.

If you could be cast in any TV show, what would it be and which character?

A host on “Outrageous Acts of Science”, a science program shown on Science Channel in the U.S.. Each episode focuses on a particular science theme that features the cleverest, funniest, most daring, or just downright bizarre clips, along with humorous explanations and funny breakdowns from science and engineering experts (aka hosts).

If you could only eat one food everyday for the rest of your life what would it be?

Waffles. The smell of a fresh baked goods in the morning reminds me of a time when life was so simple and my parents did just about everything for me (kid-days).  You can put maple syrup on it, fruit, chocolate chips in it, PB&J on top … the combinations and variety are endless and they all taste great.  Donkey in Shrek said it best “This’ll be fun. We’ll stay up late, swapping manly stories, and in the morning… I’m making waffles.”   My children have heard me say similar quotes and we make waffles in the morning!

What is one fun fact that most people do not know about you?

I had the best summer internship ever.  In the Summer of 1984, I had a summer internship with General Telephone of California. On the first day, my boss asked me to join him on a task force of GTC Leadership in an secret offsite location where they were going to create a new subsidiary to market business and consumer telecommunications equipment and expand GTC’s share of the highly-competitive communications market in a new, wholly owned subsidiary to be called GTEL.  That experience supported a foundational belief that “One Person Can Change The World”, it was an amazing summer and changed my life forever.

That is all for this employee spotlight. We hope you have learned a little more about Chuck Davis. We love that Chuck is a part of the Webbula team. He even wears Webbula gear when he is not working, as seen by the photo to the left. However, if you want a pair of his purple shoes, you will have to ask him, the editor has zero idea where to get awesome shoes like that!
